It started with one dog, Tucker. I adopted him from Dawson County Humane Society. at 3mo old. He and I did everything together. He’s my OG(original gangster), if you will. After fostering a few puppies to see how he would be if we added another to our family, we started our search for a reputable shetland sheepdog breeder as I grew up with shelties and have wanted one since our first one passed away. Found Candescent Shelties and reached out to her as well as, spoke to other sheltie owners who only had great things to say about Candace! Once speaking with Candace and her letting me know she had fostered for the Sheltie Rescue I knew I had found the breeder I was getting my Sheltie puppy from! Rescue is important to me as so many need homes, but good reputable breeders are also important to me as I will always have a sheltie in my life. They are simply wonderful dogs but people interested in the breed should research the breed beforehand. Just like any breed of dog, so many traits, care, and health issues are connected with different breeds, so it is important to research as well as research the breeders. Puppy mills and backyard breeders are the con artists in the purebred dog world, they are part of the reason for the pet overpopulation in the USA, not reputable breeders who do it for the right reasons and not profit. Anyways, off my soapbox… So that’s how Maysie made our family of 2 become a family of 3.
The Atlanta Braves host an annual Bark in the Park event and I had tickets for it! So because my dogs are so darn cute, I had to dress them up(on a small budget at that)! That’s when I grabbed one of Tucker’s Christmas collars, an old tshirt and some Braves ribbon. Hand sewed(no machine) the t-shirt to the dog collar and glued the ribbon onto the collar. This was a one time use dog collar. I posted it on Facebook and instantly friends were asking how they could get one or if I made other sports team ones. I decided to try my hand at sewing. I had sewed in Home Ec in highschool, but that was the extent of my sewing.
Also, made Maysie a couple bows and Tucker a bowtie!
After a fun day chopping with the Atlanta Braves and my sweet pups, came home and researched how to make dog collars. Ordered supplies and borrowed mom’s 1929 Singer Featherlite and the rest is history! That was April 2014 and here we are in 2017!
